What is a zine?

A zine, in this context, is short for "fanzine", an unofficial collaborative collection of artworks and writing, typically based on a single theme or fandom. Traditionally, a zine is a small, hand made booklet on a specific topic. The concept gained popularity in political spaces, being especially popular in punk subcultures like RIOTGRRRL

What format will this zine be?

We intend this project to be a physical book with physical merchandise, along with a digital PDF version and digital merchandise. At the bare minimum, we hope to have a full digital bundle

Will this zine only focus on Barbara, Cass, and Stephanie?

No! All Batgirls will be allowed, including Bette Kane, Tiffany Fox, Charlie Gage-Radcliffe, the Batgirls of DC's Bombshells universe, and any other versions of established Batgirls

Will other characters be included?

The friends and family of our Batgirls are more than welcome to be included as long as individual pieces are Batgirl-centric

How many contributors will you be accepting?

Numbers are subject to change, however we are aiming for twenty-five artists, three merch artists, five writers, and one cover artist

Where will the zine's profits go?

To a charity our creative and mod team will decide once our entire roster is gathered

Will you ship internationally?

We do plan to ship internationally, yes! All pre-order and leftover prices will be in USD, but we do plan to ship outside of the United States

General Guidelines

All applicants must be 18+ to apply

Absolutely NO plagiarism or Artificial Intelligence will be in this project, all work in your
applications and zine pieces MUST be your own

No prior zine experience is needed to apply

You are welcome to apply for multiple positions, however if you are accepted for one it does not guarantee acceptance for another

While we will only judge an applicant based on technical skill and artistic aesthetics, this zine is rated PG-13, canon typical violence is allowed, but there will be no sexual content permitted in the zine

There will be no shipping in the zine, to prevent any drama! Characters will be allowed to be on page with their canon or fanon love interests, but there won't be any romantic content, this is not a shipping event

If you're submitting your portfolio and/or samples through Google Drive, PLEASE ensure your links are accessible! We will not have time to hunt you down to request access, and any locked links will be an immediate disqualification

If any portfolio/sample works contains sensitive content, please warn accordingly in the boxes below the sample slots

Application works featuring any of the Batgirls are not required but highly encouraged

Artist Guidelines

- PAGE and SPREAD artists must submit three of what they would consider their best works

- For PAGE and SPREAD artists we request at least one of your samples or portfolio pieces features a fully colored and detailed background

- For COMIC ARTISTS, please submit at least one page of fully inked comic work, we also recommend including work that showcases an understanding of sequential art

- For MERCH and SPOT artists, full backgrounds are not needed, the only exception being if you're applying to be a print artist- For MERCH artists, we do recommend you have prior experience making designs specifically for merchandise

Writing Guidelines

- Writers must submit at least three samples of writing between 1.5k and 2.5k words, at least one of these samples needs to be a completed piece

- In the case that any samples are excerpts of larger works, please provide context. This will NOT count against your word limit

- For COMIC WRITERS, please submit at least one sample of comic scripting
